Dance classes for children, teenagers and adults
Celandine teaches ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and street dance in two studios on Sample Street. Classes run in 12-week terms, and every new student starts with a trial class.
- Classes grouped by age, from Little movers at 3 to adult beginners
- The trial fee comes off your first term
- A summer showcase at a local theatre, for dancers who want to take part
Week 7 of 12
- Every weekTrial classes in any class with space
- Week 8Half-term: no classes
- Week 10Last day to order uniform for next term
- Week 12Viewing week: parents watch the last class
Classes by style
Children are grouped by age first, then by level. Adults have their own evening classes and a Saturday drop-in.
-
Pre-school dance
Ages 3–5
Little movers and Pre-ballet: 30 minutes of music, stories and simple steps. Parents wait outside the door for the first few weeks if that helps.
See pre-school dance times -
Ballet
Age 6 to adult
Barre work, centre practice and the vocabulary every other style borrows from. Children move up through the grades; adults start in the beginners class.
See ballet times -
Tap
Age 6 to adult
Rhythm, timing and a lot of noise. Students learn steps by ear and by count, then put them together into short routines.
See tap times -
Jazz
Age 6 to adult
Kicks, turns and leaps to pop and musical-theatre music. A good fit for students who want a quicker pace than ballet.
See jazz times -
Contemporary
Age 10 to adult
Floor work, weight and improvisation. Best taken alongside ballet or jazz once a student has some basic technique.
See contemporary times -
Street dance
Age 6 to 18
Hip-hop grooves, popping and short choreography. No ballet background needed; students wear trainers kept for indoors.

How a trial class works
A trial is a normal class with the regular group, so you see what a term would be like. Sample fee: $12
Pick a class
Choose one from the timetable and book it with the form below. We confirm by email within two working days.
Arrive ten minutes early
Wear comfortable clothes. Shoes can wait: bare feet or socks are fine for a first ballet or jazz class.
Watch the last five minutes
Parents of under-8s come in at the end to see what the class learned that day.
Decide at your own pace
If you join that term, the $12 comes off your first term's fees.

For parents
The practical things families ask about in the first few weeks. Sample policies
Drop-off and pick-up
Bring your dancer to the studio door at the start of class. Under-8s are handed back to the adult who dropped them off, or someone you've named to the office.
Waiting and changing
There's a waiting area by reception and a changing room for each studio. Please change shoes before going into the studio.
Staff checks
Every teacher and helper has a background check before they start, and at least two adults are in the building whenever children's classes run.
Keeping in touch
You get one email at the start of each term with dates, and a message the same day if a class is cancelled. Teachers are happy to talk for a minute after class.
Health and injuries
Tell us about any medical condition or recent injury on the registration form. Teachers will adapt exercises; they won't give medical advice.
Parking
Free parking behind the building after 4 pm. Please don't stop in the bus lane out front.
The teachers
Each teacher takes the same classes all year, so students keep the same teacher from term to term.

Questions parents ask
Something else? Call the office on (555) 017-3348.
What age can my child start?
From age 3, in Little movers or Pre-ballet. From age 6 they can join ballet, tap, jazz or street dance.
My child has never danced. Which class should we book?
Book a trial in the beginners or Grade 1 class for their age. After the class the teacher will tell you whether it's the right level.
Can adults start from nothing?
Yes. Adult ballet, adult tap and the Saturday jazz drop-in all welcome complete beginners.
Do students have to take exams?
No. Ballet and tap students can take graded exams from age 6 if their teacher thinks they're ready. Exams are optional and exam fees are paid separately.
What happens if we miss a class?
Term fees aren't refunded for missed classes, but you can make it up in a similar class in the same term. Let the office know which one.
Can I watch my child's class?
Every term ends with a viewing week when parents can watch from the back of the studio. The rest of the time there's a waiting area by reception.
Does everyone have to be in the showcase?
No. It's optional, and students who sit it out carry on with classes as normal.
