What we do for dogs and cats
From a puppy's first vaccines to care for an older cat, most of what your pet needs happens here.
-
Wellness visits
A checkup once a year for adults and twice a year for seniors. We check weight, heart, eyes, ears, skin and teeth, and go through anything you've noticed at home.
-
Vaccines
Core vaccines for every dog and cat, plus lifestyle vaccines such as kennel cough or leptospirosis when your pet's routine calls for them.
-
Dental care
Cleanings under anesthesia with dental X-rays, so we can see the roots as well as the crowns. You get a written estimate before the day.
-
Surgery
Spays, neuters, lump removals and other soft-tissue surgery. A technician monitors your pet from the moment they're asleep until they wake up.
-
Sick and injured pets
Call as soon as we open. We hold a few appointments each day for pets that shouldn't wait for a routine slot.
-
Microchips and travel forms
A microchip can go in at any visit, registration included. We also fill in health certificates for travel within the US.
We see dogs and cats only. For rabbits, birds or reptiles, call us and we'll tell you who to ring.

Bringing a new pet to Fernwick
Four things to do before the first appointment. Timings are samples.
Ask for a first visit
Use the form on this page or call the front desk. Choose "first visit" and the form asks for your pet's details.
Send past records
Ask your previous clinic to email us your pet's vaccine history and any recent test results. We can request them for you.
Get ready for the day
Dogs on a leash, cats in a carrier with a towel over it. Bring a list of food and any medicines, with doses.
Your first visit
About 40 minutes: a full exam, any vaccines that are due and time for your questions. You go home with a written care plan.

Questions pet owners ask
Something else? Ring the front desk on (555) 016-3480.
Do you see rabbits, birds or reptiles?
No, we see dogs and cats only. Call us and we'll give you the number of a clinic nearby that treats other pets.
Will I know the cost before treatment?
Yes. For anything beyond the exam we tell you the cost first. For surgery and dental work you get a written estimate with a low and a high figure.
How do I pay, and do you take pet insurance?
You pay at the end of each visit by card or cash. If your pet is insured, we fill in the claim form and you claim the money back from your insurer. Sample policy.
My cat hates the carrier. Any tips?
Leave the carrier out at home for a few days with a blanket inside, and cover it with a towel in the car. Tell us when you book and we'll take you straight to the quiet room.
What if I need to cancel?
Call us or reply to your reminder text at least 24 hours ahead. Sample policy.
Ask for an appointment
Tell us who's coming in and when suits you, and the front desk calls back to confirm a time. This is a demo form, so nothing is sent. Concept
