Ways to hire through us

Pick the one that fits the role. You can start with temporary cover and move to temp-to-hire later.

  • Temporary

Cover for a busy season, a leave of absence or a short project, from one day to a few months.

    Whose payroll
Ours. We pay their wages, payroll taxes and workers' comp.
    You pay
An hourly bill rate for the hours on their approved timesheet, invoiced weekly.
    Ending it
Tell us the day before. There's no minimum length.
    Ask about temporary
  • Temp-to-hire

For roles where you want to see someone do the work before you offer them a permanent job.

    Whose payroll
Ours at first, then yours once you hire them.
    You pay
The hourly bill rate while they're with us. After 520 hours there's no fee to hire them.
    Ending it
Same as temporary: one day's notice if it isn't working.
    Ask about temp-to-hire
  • Direct hire

Permanent, salaried and supervisory roles. We find and screen the candidates, and you interview and choose.

    Whose payroll
    Yours from their first day.
    You pay
One placement fee, a percentage of the first year's base salary, invoiced when they start.
    Before that
Nothing. There's no fee if you don't hire anyone we send.
    Ask about direct hire

How fees work

Employers pay our fees and job seekers never do. Your actual rates go in a written agreement before anyone starts. Sample rates

Temporary and temp-to-hire

You pay an hourly bill rate: the worker's pay rate times a markup. This sample uses a markup of 1.45.

Bill rate per hour
$26.10
Overtime hours (billed at 1.5×)
0
Sample weekly invoice
$1,044.00

What the markup covers: employer payroll taxes, workers' comp and unemployment insurance, recruiting and screening, payroll, and our margin.

Direct hire

One placement fee of 18% of the first year's base salary, invoiced when the person starts.

Sample placement fee
$9,360.00

Nothing is due unless you hire someone we introduced.

Hiring a temp-to-hire worker: after 520 hours on assignment with you (about 13 full-time weeks), there's no fee to move them onto your payroll. Earlier than that, a conversion fee applies, and it goes down as their hours go up. Sample terms

Screening

How we screen candidates

Every candidate goes through the first four steps before we send them to you. The fifth depends on the role.

  1. Application and work history

We go through their last few jobs with them, including gaps and why they left.

  2. An interview

Thirty minutes in our office or by video, about the work they've done and the work they want next.

  3. A skills check for the role

Typing and spreadsheet tests for office roles, a certificate check for forklift drivers, and a counting and accuracy test for picking and packing.

  4. Two references

We call two past supervisors and ask about attendance and the kind of work the person did.

  5. Background check or drug test, only if the role needs it

With the candidate's written permission, and following the rules for your state.

What you get with each candidate

  • A short written profile: recent work, skills checked and the hours they can do
  • A note of which checks we ran for this role
  • The option of a call or interview before they start, for temp-to-hire and direct hire

A screening tells you about someone's past work and skills. You still decide who's right for your team.

Common questions

Anything else, call (555) 014-7731.

From employers

How soon can you send someone?

It depends on the role. On the first call we'll tell you how long that kind of role usually takes and whether we have people registered for it.

What if the person isn't working out?

Call us. For temporary staff we end the assignment and look for someone else. You pay for the hours already worked.

Who handles payroll taxes and workers' comp?

For temporary and temp-to-hire staff, we do. They're our employees while they work with you.

Can we interview candidates first?

Yes for temp-to-hire and direct hire. For short temporary cover we send a written profile of each person, and you can ask for a call.

Who trains them on site?

We cover general safety before a first assignment. You show them your equipment and site rules. We can walk the site with you first.

From job seekers

Does it cost anything to register?

No. Employers pay our fees. You'll never be asked for money.

Can I turn down an assignment?

Yes. Tell us why if you're happy to, so we offer you better matches next time.

When do I get paid?

Weekly, by direct deposit, for the hours on your approved timesheet.

Can a temporary job become permanent?

Sometimes. Temp-to-hire roles are set up for it, and the employer makes that decision.

What if I can't make a shift?

Call the office before the shift starts. Please don't call the employer directly; we'll let them know.
