Manufacturers & workshops
A production floor that runs on one source of truth, not a spreadsheet and somebody's memory.
A manufacturer makes money by turning quotes into scheduled jobs and shipping them on time at a margin. Technology quietly costs you when the schedule lives in a spreadsheet, when quoting is slow and when one failed server or a ransomware message stops the line.
Common problems
Sounds familiar?
-
The production schedule is a spreadsheet only one person understands
The problemJobs, due dates and machine time are tracked in a workbook that gets copied, emailed and overwritten. When the planner is away, nobody is sure which version is current.
What we doWe build custom software that holds the schedule in one place with roles, history and views for the floor and the office. Workflow engineering first maps how jobs really flow, so the tool matches your process instead of forcing a generic one.
What changesEveryone looks at the same schedule, and changes leave a record.
-
Quotes take too long and we lose RFQs to faster suppliers
The problemA request for quote arrives by email, gets re-keyed into a costing sheet and waits behind other work. Buyers often go with whoever replies first.
What we doLead capture brings RFQs from the website and email into the CRM with an automatic acknowledgement. Custom automations pull the details into a quote template so the estimator starts from structured data.
What changesRequests are acknowledged straight away and reach the estimator in a usable form.
-
Our website looks like it is from another decade and buyers notice
The problemProcurement teams check a supplier's site before sending drawings. A thin site with no capabilities page, certifications or contact path costs you invitations to quote.
What we doWe build and run a site that lists your processes, materials, equipment and the industries you serve, with a clear RFQ form. Search marketing targets the specific work you want rather than general traffic.
What changesA buyer can see what you can make and send a request without hunting for a phone number.
-
A server or machine-connected PC failing would stop the shop
The problemSome machines depend on old computers running unsupported software. Patching is avoided because it might break something, and backups have not been tested.
What we doIT asset management inventories every PC, server and controller-connected machine so nothing is invisible. Managed IT patches and monitors what can be safely updated, and cloud infrastructure and backups give you a restore path.
What changesYou know what you run, what is out of support and how you would recover from a failure.
-
The office network and the shop floor network share too much
The problemWifi is patchy near the machines, production equipment sits on the same flat network as email and guest laptops, and one infected device could reach everything.
What we doOur networking team designs segmented networks that separate office, floor and guest traffic, with wireless coverage planned around the building. Cybersecurity monitoring and email protection reduce the chance of an incident reaching the floor.
What changesA problem in one part of the network is less able to spread to the machines.
-
Customer drawings and specifications are shared too freely
The problemDrawings and quality documents travel by email and shared folders, often with contractors or customers who should see only part of them. Some customers now ask about your security practices.
What we doIdentity and access management gives each person individual logins, multi-factor authentication and access limited to the folders they need. This produces the access records customers and auditors ask for.
What changesSensitive documents are visible only to the people who need them, with a record of who has access.
-
Quality, maintenance and inventory data never reach the people who decide
The problemScrap logs, machine downtime and stock counts are on paper or in separate files. Management sees them weeks later, if at all.
What we doWe connect the sources with custom automations and surface them in dashboards built to your questions. AI assistants can answer questions from your own work instructions and procedures so supervisors do not hunt for documents.
What changesManagers see current shop floor figures and staff can find the right procedure quickly.
Getting started
Your first week with EpicTech
- Walk the floor and the office with the people who plan and schedule, and draw the current job flow.
- Start an inventory of computers, servers and machine-connected systems, flagging anything unsupported.
- Check backups for the quoting, ERP and document systems and confirm a restore actually works.
- Review network layout and identify what should be separated first.
FAQ
Common questions
Can you work around our existing ERP?
Yes. We connect to it where it allows and build alongside it. We do not suggest replacing it unless it is the real obstacle.
Do you touch machine controllers?
We inventory and isolate them on the network. Changes to anything tied to production are planned with your engineers.
We have several plants. Can you cover all of them?
Yes. Shared logins, standards and reporting can span sites, with each plant keeping its own requirements.
